• History

St George’s College, Barataria was founded in 1953. It was the first mixed gender Secondary school in Trinidad & Tobago. This was a historical event for Trinidad, and many other schools followed in it’s footsteps.

At first, the school was very small comprising of less than 100 pupils and very few classrooms, as well as very few teachers. In time though, the school grew. The Science Laboratories, the Gym, the Art Room, the Library as well as many other classsrooms were built in due course. All of this was to accomodate the rapid influx of students and staff.

Since then, many students have passed through and gone on to be successful, for example Mr James Sammy, headmaster of the school.

St. George’s college is one of the top performing schools in the country, and in 2011 achieved a 90% pass rate, across the board.
